The poem below Paul's picture was submitted by someone who signed the Guest Book, Gail Raphael.  It was written Friday night, November 10, 2006 to describe the motorcade processional that stretched 13 miles from Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling, where Paul's funeral and burial took place.  It was a sight you hope you never have to see, but will never forget if you did.

Thirteen Miles

Thirteen miles of sorrow shared
in tearful prayer by hearts who cared.
Thirteen miles of grief divided
borne by grateful hearts united.
Thirteen miles of flags that waved
for freedoms won and battles braved.
For the life, in love, which one man gave  
life freely given and truly saved.
A wife and children left to face
a rougher road paved by God's grace.
Thirteen miles of faith unshaken
A life laid down can never be taken.
